A job interview is your opportunity to present your talents to a prospective employer. During the interview, an employer judges your qualifications, appearance and general fitness for the job opening. It is your opportunity to convince the employer that you can make a real contribution. Equally important, the interview gives you a chance to evaluate the job, the employer and the company. The interview helps you decide if the job meets your career needs and interests and whether the employer is the kind you want to work for. Interviews are always stressful. The best way to reduce the stress is to be prepared. You should know how to act at the interview to make it an opportunity to “sell” your skills. Take the time to review the “standard” interview questions you will most likely to be asked. Also take time to research the company so you will be ready with a knowledgeable answer for each interview question. Organizations use different types of interview for different types of job. Some of the most common are: competency-based, technical, face-to-face, group and panel interviews. Задание 2. Установите соответствие между видами интервью и их описаниями. Types of interviews: technical, сompetency-based, face-to-face, panel, group, telephone. 1. These interviews focus on the skills and attributes needed for the job. You’ll have to relate your skills and experience to the job in question. 2. These are for technical positions as IT or engineering jobs. You will probably be asked to display your technical knowledge of a certain process or skill. They may ask you to do this by talking about your previous experience or by asking you hypothetical questions, such as “What would you do if you were working on this project?” 3. This is where the interviewer meets with the candidate in person. 4. Some organizations use these as the first stage of screening. You may be warned in advance or contacted out of the blue. First impressions count, so you should prepare for a telephone interview just as much as you would for a face-to-face interview. 5. This is an interview where more than one person interviews you. Usually, one person chairs the interview and panel members take it in turns to ask you different questions. You should direct your answer mainly towards the panel member that asked the question. 6. This is an informal, discussion type interview to which a number of candidates are invited to note how each one responds to a given job-oriented situation. Задание 3. How many hours do you normally work? 3. How would you describe the place at which you work? 4. What’s your greatest strength / weakness? 5. How do you handle stress and pressure? 6. What are your salary expectations? 7. What do you find are the most difficult decisions to make? 8. If the people who know you were asked why you should be hired, what would they say? 9. Do you want to work independently or on a team? 10. What type of work environment do you prefer? 11. Describe a difficult work situation / project and how you overcome it. 12. How do you evaluate success? Questions: About the New Job and Company 1. What interests you about this job? 2. What applicable attributes / experience do you have? 3. Why are you the best person for the job? 4.Why should we hire you? 5. What do you know about this company? 6. Why do you want to work for this organization? 7. What challenges are you looking for in a position? 8. What can you contribute to this company? 9. Are you willing to travel? 10. Is there anything I haven’t told you about the job or company that you would like to know? Questions: The Future 1. What are you looking for in your next job? What is important to you? 2.What are your goals for the next five / ten years? 3. How do you plan to achieve those goals? 4. What are your salary requirements - both short-term and long-term?
